Fourth Grade Lab

Week Of November 12th-21st, 2007

This week Fourth grade will be working on Energy

Electricity and magnetism are related.  When current flows through a wire a magnetic field is produced.  An electromagnet's strength can be varied by varying the length of winding wire or the strength of the current.

Lab:

This week Fourth grade students will be building an electromagnet using a C battery, a battery holder, 3 feet of insulated wire and a nail. Then they will test its strength.  Students will use paperclips and plastic disks to test the strength of their electromagnets.  Finally they will have to think how they would be able to change the electromagnet and its strength.
