Third Grade Lab

Week Of November 12th-November21st, 2007

This week third grade will be working on sound energy: Physical Science

Sounds come from a variety of sources: people, musical instruments, machines, and nature.  Whatever the sound, we can be certain that it was caused by a vibrating object.  Differences in pitch are caused by differences in the rate at which objects vibrate.  Every object, when struck, will vibrate.  The faster something vibrates, the higher the pitch of the sound it produces.  The slower something vibrates, the lower the pitch of the sound it produces. Lab:

This week, students are going rotate through three different stations investigating ways to make sound and relate the sound with the vibrations.
