Week of December 3rd-December 7th, 2007
Fifth Grade will be working on Electromagnets
Electricity and magnetism are closely related. Magnetism is a result of electric currents, and electric currents can be produced by changing magnetic fields. When current flows through a wire a magnetic field is produced. An electromagnet's strength can be varied by varying the length of winding wire or the strength of the current.
Lab:
This week fifth grade students will be building their own electromagnet out of a battery, insulated wire, and rubber band. Then, they will test the strength of their electromagnets using paper clips.
